Low, flat cloud sitting over the water, with just enough NNE wind to ripple the surface with the barometer flat. Give structure within a cast of the bank the first hour at Chapman Lake. A stay-home graph, with the evening as the one excuse to go. Scale down and fish slowly. Cold hands, careful casts: precision is everything today.

Yukon holds Chapman Lake, in Dawson. This is northern bush ground. This is sizeable water at about 1.36 sq km, and a boat opens up most of it. Some 8.4 km of bank gives room to move when the wind turns. Of the waters listed here in Dawson, this is the largest. Head to Dawson City, 102 km away, for anything you forgot. For a city, Anchorage is 707 km off. It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
We hold no depth figure for this one. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Open biodiversity records for Dawson list Arctic grayling, Chinook salmon, lake whitefish, round whitefish and slimy sculpin. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. Chapman Lake responds to conditions more than to tactics.
Between January at about -26°C and July at about 12°C, the water has a wide range to work through. Water stays cold even at the height of the year. Look for the thaw near late May; the fishing lifts straight after. On average, late May opens the water and early October closes it again. The shoulder weeks of the open season are the productive ones. That is the shape of the year on Chapman Lake.
The access position is unclear from public sources. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Mapping shows no built access close by; expect to walk in from wherever you can leave the car. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. Should this one be busy, Spruce Lake is 1.8 km off. Rules at Chapman Lake are worth checking on the day.
