Snow softening the light today, with a faint SE drift and pressure going nowhere. The water to cover at Brewer Lake is the calm side of the wind. The forecast is against you; the evening is the least bad option. Save the long walk for a better forecast. A raw day: short sessions and precise casts pay.

Set in Village of Teslin, Yukon, this is Brewer Lake. Around the bank it is northern bush. With some 66 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. At about 5.1 km of edge, most people work one arm at a time. Whitehorse sits 88 km from here and is the nearest stop. Skagway lies 169 km off, Haines another 194 km. It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
Depth is unmeasured here, so let the shoreline guide you. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Fish documented in Village of Teslin include Chinook salmon, lake whitefish, Arctic grayling, least cisco and northern pike. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. Brewer Lake fishes better once you know its edges.
The seasonal spread runs -19°C to 13°C. The freeze holds for the better part of the year. After early May the shallows warm and the fish move up. Averages place the thaw at early May and the freeze at early November. Reckon on open water from spring through to late autumn, with May and June the strongest. On Brewer Lake that shapes the whole year.
Our records carry no access rule either way. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Mapping shows a campsite some 630 m from the water. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Bank access can be seasonal on ground like this. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. Should this one be busy, Gunsight Lake is 2.5 km off. None of that is settled for Brewer Lake in what we hold.
