A crisp, open sky after dark, with a persistent wind from the SSE and steady pressure. Most of the action on Woodhead Lake should come off the weed line and any gaps in it. A tough forecast; the morning offers the only real chance. Treat it as a scouting trip with a rod in hand.

Woodhead Lake is one of the Bjorkdale No. 426 waters in Saskatchewan. It stands 470 metres above sea level. It measures about 48 hectares, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. The bank runs about 3.6 km all the way round, so one visit can cover most of it. Some 32 km away sits Tisdale, the nearest settlement. The nearest city of size is Saskatoon, 222 km away. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Across Bjorkdale No. 426, recorded fish include northern pike, walleye and blacknose shiner. Species recorded across the county may be limited to a few waters. The shape of Woodhead Lake rewards a slow walk along one bank.
The year swings from about -18°C in January to roughly 17°C in July. The middle months are generous; the ends are demanding. Count the season from break-up, usually late April. Expect the water usable from around late April until roughly mid November. The shoulder weeks of the open season are the productive ones. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Woodhead Lake.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Mapping records no facilities at all near this water. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Gates get locked out of season on water like this. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. If the gate is shut, Bjork Lake at 12 km is the nearest alternative. Confirm access to Woodhead Lake locally before you travel.
