Scattered cloud dimming the moonlight, with a stiffish breeze from the SSE and pressure going nowhere. Fish at Weldon Lake should hold close to windblown banks where food collects. The forecast is against you; the morning is the least bad option. Treat it as a scouting trip with a rod in hand.

Set in Hazel Dell No. 335, Saskatchewan, this is Weldon Lake. Height above sea level is 629 metres. At some 1.35 sq km it is far too large to cover on foot in a day. You are looking at roughly 10 km of shoreline, with plenty of water between access points. The closest town, Preeceville, is 53 km distant. Wadena lies 66 km off, Hudson Bay another 73 km. The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
The records we hold are silent on depth, so plan to find it yourself. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Weldon Lake gives up its fish to patience rather than distance. Deeper water next to shallow is more useful than either on its own.
Between January at about -19°C and July at about 17°C, the water has a wide range to work through. Winter runs most of the calendar, and everything worth doing happens in the gap. Firm cover through the cold months, then open water from late April. In an average year the thaw lands around late April and the freeze near early November. June through September is the settled part of the year, with the shoulders busier for fish. It holds true on Weldon Lake more years than not.
Public sources are silent on who controls the bank. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Mapping shows no built access close by; expect to walk in from wherever you can leave the car. Where a permit is needed, the nearest town usually sells it. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. Victor Lake sits 3.9 km off and takes the overflow. None of that is settled for Weldon Lake in what we hold.
