Heavy overcast holding through the day, with a proper ripple driven from the SSE with the barometer flat. Activity on Stonebluff Lake should centre on structure within a cast of the bank. A stay-home graph, with the morning as the one excuse to go. Quiet tactics only; the fish will not chase today.

Stonebluff Lake lies in Big River No. 555, in Saskatchewan. Around the bank it is spruce and muskeg. At some 3.35 sq km it is far too large to cover on foot in a day. Some 10 km of bank gives room to move when the wind turns. Shellbrook is the closest place, 104 km off. Meadow Lake lies 105 km off, Prince Albert another 123 km. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
No chart reached our records; the first cast is your sounding. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Survey and observation records for Big River No. 555 include cisco, northern pike and yellow perch. Species recorded across the county may be limited to a few waters. Take Stonebluff Lake a stretch at a time.
July is the warm end of the year here, averaging about 16°C, while January sits near -18°C. Ice holds for a long stretch, so the open weeks matter more here than further south. Break-up comes around late April, and the run that follows is short and strong. Ice clears near late April and comes back about early November in a typical year. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. On Stonebluff Lake the same rules apply, with local timing.
Our records carry no access rule either way. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Access points are not mapped for this water, which suits people who like quiet. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Sort the permit out before you load the car. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. If the gate is shut, Spencer Lake at 6.6 km is the nearest alternative. Ask locally about Stonebluff Lake if anything is unclear.
