Not a cloud worth mentioning today, with air barely moving and pressure going nowhere. Activity on Stanley Lake should centre on reed fringes and open pockets. Plan around the stretch from morning through afternoon. Keep moving until you find them. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Stanley Lake falls in Hyas, part of Saskatchewan. The bank is 520 metres above sea level. The water covers around 1.57 sq km, which puts most of it out of reach from the bank. Around 6.9 km of bank, which is a long day on foot. Nearest place of any size is Preeceville, 28 km away. Further out sit Canora (37 km) and Kamsack (50 km). Two sets of local rules meet not far from this water.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Read Stanley Lake for ten minutes before the first cast goes out. Deeper water next to shallow is more useful than either on its own.
Typical July readings run about 17°C; by January the average is down near -20°C. Hard water is a season in its own right here. Winter fishing happens on the ice here, with open water back around late April. On the long-run averages the water opens up around late April and starts locking again about early November. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. It sets the rhythm of the year at Stanley Lake.
Public data does not answer the access question here. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Records show it does not hold water year-round. Access points are not mapped for this water, which suits people who like quiet. Where the road in crosses private land, ask first. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. The nearest alternative is Holm Lake, 6 km out. Check the current arrangement for Stanley Lake.
