Moonlight in and out behind the cloud tonight, with a mirror surface most of the day with a settled glass. Start the search at Highbank Lake along sheltered bays and points. Little to get excited about, though the morning holds a sliver of promise. Fish the best hour hard and keep the rest short.

Within Hudson Bay No. 394, Saskatchewan, you have Highbank Lake. It stands 264 metres above sea level. The water covers around 8.17 sq km, which puts most of it out of reach from the bank. Some 14 km of bank gives room to move when the wind turns. The Pas lies 79 km from the water. It is 342 km to Saskatoon, the nearest city. No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
There is no published depth for this one, so start shallow and work out. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Hudson Bay No. 394 records list goldeye, northern pike, white sucker and johnny darter among the fish reported. County records show what lives in the area; the local agency holds the water-by-water list. Highbank Lake gives up more to patience than to distance.
July runs about 18°C on average, January about -21°C. A hard winter is normal, and the thaw brings a strong few weeks. The open season starts with the thaw, near enough late April. On the long-run averages the water opens up around late April and starts locking again about early November. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. The season on Highbank Lake rarely departs from it.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. No made access appears within a short radius, so plan to park on a verge and walk. Light line and small metal for the trout; a fly rod earns its place on calm evenings. A landowner's word beats anything printed elsewhere. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Failing this one, try Waterhen Lake, 4.3 km away.
