A closed sky with even light today, with a decent ESE wind working the banks with the barometer flat. The water to cover at Dreger Lake is structure within a cast of the bank. Numbers are low everywhere; the night is the pick of them. Scale down and fish slowly. Cold air keeps the water sluggish; scale everything down.

Look for Dreger Lake in Pinehouse, Saskatchewan. The water sits 386 metres up. Around 10.62 sq km of open water: conditions change from one end to the other. Around 139 km of margin, so directions matter more than a general plan. On size it sits at the modest end of our Pinehouse list. Some 109 km away sits Buffalo Narrows, the nearest settlement. Beyond it, La Ronge at 117 km and Meadow Lake at 210 km. One jurisdiction covers this water end to end.
We hold no depth figure for this one. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Open biodiversity records for Pinehouse list walleye, northern pike, cisco and lake whitefish. County data is a starting point rather than a guarantee. Dreger Lake responds to conditions more than to tactics.
Climate normals give 17°C for July and -20°C for January. The fishing year opens late and shuts early. The open season starts with the thaw, near enough late April. Ice clears near late April and comes back about early November in a typical year. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. That is the shape of the year on Dreger Lake.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Public mapping records no formal access here, so plan for a walk and soft ground. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. The nearest alternative is Sandy Lake, 7.3 km out.
