Scattered cloud dimming the moonlight, with a consistent blow out of the SE with a settled glass. Give points where shallow meets deep the first hour at Cross Lake. A hard day on paper; the morning edges the rest. Go lighter and slower than usual. Biting air and slow fish: small baits, long pauses.

The Hudson Bay No. 394 end of Saskatchewan holds Cross Lake. Around the bank it is pine and birch. At 11.57 sq km you are fishing a fraction of it whatever you do. The Pas lies 57 km from the water. Then Creighton, 84 km, and Flin Flon, 86 km. Others within reach: Belanger Lake 10 km, Cumberland Lake (16 km), Little Egg Lake 17 km, Big Lake (21 km) and Egg Lake 22 km. This one is safely inside the county line.
Without a survey to go on, judge depth from how the bank falls away. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Open biodiversity records for Hudson Bay No. 394 list goldeye, northern pike, white sucker, johnny darter and logperch. County records show the wider picture rather than this one place. Take Cross Lake a stretch at a time.
Temperature averages peak at 18°C in July and bottom out at -21°C in January. Winter shuts things down for a spell, then spring reopens them fast. Winter locks it down, and late April brings it back. On the long-run averages the water opens up around late April and starts locking again about early November. The middle of summer slows a little, with dawn and dusk carrying it. On Cross Lake that shapes the whole year.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. No built facilities appear in mapping around this water. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. Belanger Lake, 10 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Nothing here settles the position at Cross Lake for certain.
