A grey, even sky over the water, with dead-still conditions and no real change in pressure. Expect most activity at Petit lac Irish around bays that hold the day's warmth. The forecast is against you; the night is the least bad option. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Petit lac Irish is one of the Abitibi-Témiscamingue listings for Quebec. Height above sea level is 298 metres. With some 35 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. The full circuit measures close to 3.5 km on foot. The nearest town is Notre-Dame-du-Lac, 47 km away. Further out sit Témiscaming (52 km) and Mattawa (70 km). No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
There is no published depth for this one, so start shallow and work out. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Species logged across Abitibi-Témiscamingue include northern pike, yellow perch, walleye, white sucker and brown bullhead. What holds for the county may not hold for this water. At Petit lac Irish light and wind decide more than tackle does.
The year swings from about -15°C in January to roughly 18°C in July. The season turns properly here, and fish follow it closely. Ice-out usually falls in late April, and the weeks after it fish hardest. Average temperatures cross freezing around late April in spring and again near late November in autumn. The open run goes from the thaw to the freeze, and April through October covers most of it. Petit lac Irish runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
Our records carry no access rule either way. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. No made access is recorded, so a short walk in is the likely arrangement. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. Lac de la Neurula sits 1.6 km off and takes the overflow. Nothing on Petit lac Irish should be assumed from this page alone.
