A closed sky with even light today, with light air out of the SSE with a settled glass. Start the search at Petit lac David along the margins and the shelf beyond them. Set the alarm around the night. Change depth before you change anything else. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Petit lac David is set in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, Quebec. The bank gives way to mixed forest. At about 26 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. The whole outline is near 1.9 km, and most of it is walkable. By elevation it sits in the lower part of our Quebec listings. The town to know is Albanel, 21 km out. Then Dolbeau-Mistassini, 26 km, and Normandin, 28 km. The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
Depth figures are not published for this one. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Public occurrence data for Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean names northern pike, Atlantic salmon and lake whitefish. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. At Petit lac David light and wind decide more than tackle does.
Typical July readings run about 17°C; by January the average is down near -19°C. A solid cap is the normal state through winter. Ice is part of the season here, ending near early May. Going by climate averages, expect open water from about early May until roughly mid November. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Petit lac David.
Our records carry no access rule either way. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Formal access is not mapped, so the last stretch is likely on foot. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. Lac du Loup-Cervier sits 1.5 km off and takes the overflow. Signs at Petit lac David carry more weight than any list.
