Soft grey light all day today, with a gentle ripple from the S with the barometer flat. Lac Yvan should fish best around the weed line and any gaps in it today. A tough forecast; the evening offers the only real chance. Save the long walk for a better forecast. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Lac Yvan lies in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, Quebec. The surface lies 675 metres up. It runs to roughly 10 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. The bank runs about 1.3 km all the way round, so one visit can cover most of it. Compared with other Quebec water on our list, it sits high. Saint-Fulgence sits 32 km from here and is the nearest stop. The nearest city of size is Saguenay, 41 km away. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
No published figure covers depth, so learn it as you fish. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Survey and observation records for Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean include northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. Protected fish appear in the records for this area, so treat the list as information, not an invitation. At Lac Yvan the water rewards a slow, careful approach.
Temperature averages peak at 15°C in July and bottom out at -19°C in January. The window is narrow, and fish feed hard while it lasts. Expect a solid lid for months and a thaw around mid May. Going by climate averages, expect open water from about mid May until roughly early November. From the thaw to midsummer the fishing improves week by week. That is the shape of the year on Lac Yvan.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. No launch point is recorded nearby, so this is a bank water unless you carry a boat in. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Failing this one, try Lac Perron, 0.5 km away. Where Lac Yvan is concerned, a local answer beats a written one.
