Showers crossing the water today, with light air out of the WSW and pressure sitting still. On Lac Simard, work the calm side of the wind first. A tough forecast; the night offers the only real chance. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Lac Simard lies in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, Quebec. The country here is boreal forest. With some 28 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. Bank access stretches around 3.8 km in total. By elevation it is in the upper part of our Quebec listings. For supplies, Saint-Fulgence is 32 km out. Then Saint-Honoré, 33 km, and Chicoutimi, 41 km. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
The records we hold are silent on depth, so plan to find it yourself. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Survey and observation records for Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean include northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. Lac Simard repays a walk before the first cast.
Between January at about -19°C and July at about 15°C, the water has a wide range to work through. Everything is compressed into the middle of the year. After mid May the shallows warm and the fish move up. Average temperatures cross freezing around mid May in spring and again near early November in autumn. From the thaw to midsummer the fishing improves week by week. On Lac Simard that shapes the whole year.
We hold no note on access for this one. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Mapping is blank for access, so scout the approach before committing the car. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Ask in the nearest town if you are unsure. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Lac de la Poche sits 1.1 km off and takes the overflow. Treat access at Lac Simard as something to verify.
