Cloud from horizon to horizon today, with a light chop building from the SSE and pressure going nowhere. The fish at Lac Wabikook are likely to sit near shallow cover and weed edges. The day peaks in the night. Cover water early, then settle where the signs are. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

In Quebec, Lac Wabikook falls inside Mauricie. It stands 296 metres above sea level. A pocket of water where every cast reaches cover. On size it sits at the modest end of our Mauricie list. Supplies mean a trip to La Tuque, 26 km off. Trois-Rivières sits 117 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
Depth is unmeasured here, so let the shoreline guide you. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Species logged across Mauricie include northern pike, brook trout and walleye. Read it as a county summary, not a water-by-water list. On Lac Wabikook the first feature you find is usually worth a session.
In an average year July sits at 17°C and January at -16°C. A solid cap is the normal state through winter. The lid arrives early and lasts until roughly late April. Ice usually gives way near late April, and forms again about late November. Fish feed hardest at the start and the close of the open season. That is the shape of the year on Lac Wabikook.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. Nothing formal is recorded here: no ramp, no car park, no marked path. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. Should this one be busy, Lac Taku is 0.7 km off. For Lac Wabikook in particular, ask before you travel.
