Low, flat cloud sitting over the water, with a gentle ripple from the WSW and no real change in pressure. Give bays that hold the day's warmth the first hour at Lac Vanasse. A stay-home graph, with the night as the one excuse to go. Save the long walk for a better forecast. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Lac Vanasse is a Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean water, in Quebec. It sits at 652 metres above sea level. At 2 hectares it is the sort of place you fish for an evening rather than a day. Our Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean list holds plenty of bigger water. Saint-Fulgence at 44 km is the nearest place to stop. Further out sit Saint-Honoré (47 km) and La Baie (54 km). The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
No published figure covers depth, so learn it as you fish. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Reported across Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean: northern pike, Atlantic salmon and lake whitefish. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. At Lac Vanasse the water rewards a slow, careful approach.
Averages move between -19°C in January and 15°C in July. The fishing year opens late and shuts early. Ice is part of the season here, ending near mid May. Going by climate averages, expect open water from about mid May until roughly early November. The strongest runs come at either end of the open season. That is the shape of the year on Lac Vanasse.
Public data does not answer the access question here. No made access is recorded, so a short walk in is the likely arrangement. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. For a change of water, Lac des Trois Chutes is 0.3 km distant. None of that is settled for Lac Vanasse in what we hold.
