A closed sky with even light today, with the water lying quiet and pressure sitting still. On Lac Tzar, work bays that hold the day's warmth first. One clear peak today: the night. Work fewer spots, but work them properly. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

Lac Tzar belongs to Mauricie, Quebec. Height above sea level is 390 metres. Roughly 12 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. A shoreline of some 3.0 km keeps the choices simple. Head to Manawan, 94 km away, for anything you forgot. Ferme-Neuve is 104 km and Leblanc 109 km. Near neighbours: Lac Tried 1.6 km off, Lac du Rapide some 2.8 km off, Lac Lira 4.1 km off, Lac Karma some 4.2 km off and Lac Rita 4.3 km off. No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Mauricie records list northern pike, brook trout and walleye among the fish reported. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. On Lac Tzar the quiet end is the one worth the extra effort.
Temperature averages peak at 17°C in July and bottom out at -17°C in January. This is a two-season water: locked, then wide open. Ice is part of the season here, ending near early May. Average temperatures cross freezing around early May in spring and again near mid November in autumn. Fishing peaks soon after break-up and again before the cold returns. Lac Tzar runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Nothing is mapped in the way of a ramp or car park within a short radius. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Some banks are open only from a marked point. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. The nearest alternative is Lac Tried, 1.6 km out. Nothing on Lac Tzar should be assumed from this page alone.
