A closed sky with even light today, with hardly a ripple anywhere and no real change in pressure. Give sheltered bays and points the first hour at Lac Lira. The night is where the day comes good. Fish tidy and take what the day gives. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

You will find Lac Lira in Mauricie, Quebec. Height above sea level is 399 metres. At roughly 4 hectares, the whole thing is within casting reach of a single walk. It is a small entry by Mauricie standards. Head to Manawan, 96 km away, for anything you forgot. Then Leblanc, 107 km, and Ferme-Neuve, 108 km. Near neighbours: Lac Karma lies 0.6 km on, Lac Kayosh 3.2 km away, Lac Rita lies 3.2 km on, Lac Melancon 3.7 km away and Lac Tzar lies 4.1 km on. No border sits close enough to matter.
The records we hold are silent on depth, so plan to find it yourself. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Survey and observation records for Mauricie include northern pike, brook trout, walleye, yellow perch and white sucker. The county figures include rivers and lakes alike. On Lac Lira a short move beats a long cast.
Average temperature peaks around 17°C in July and bottoms out near -17°C in January. Long winters and short summers set the pattern. Ice fishing carries the winter, and the water opens about early May. Open water usually runs from early May until about mid November. Early summer and early autumn carry the open-water season. That shapes the year on Lac Lira.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. Nothing built is recorded close to the bank here. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Sort the permit out before you load the car. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. Lac Karma, 0.6 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Rules at Lac Lira are worth checking on the day.
