Dull, settled light over the water, with stillness over the whole water and steady pressure. Fish at Lac Travers should hold close to the seam between weed and open water. If you pick one session, make it the night. Work the productive water thoroughly. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Lac Travers is one of the Mauricie waters in Quebec. This is taiga ground. It measures about 10 hectares, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. Around 2.5 km of margin, front to back. Leblanc lies 41 km from the water. Further out sit Weymontachie (59 km) and Saint-Félicien (106 km). The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
No published figure covers depth, so learn it as you fish. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Survey and observation records for Mauricie include northern pike, brook trout, walleye, yellow perch and white sucker. County records show what lives in the area; the local agency holds the water-by-water list. At Lac Travers the first feature you find is worth twenty minutes.
Averages here run 16°C at the top of summer and -17°C at the bottom of winter. Cold dominates the calendar on water this far north. Break-up comes around early May, and the run that follows is short and strong. The open-water window runs from around early May to about mid November in an average year. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. On Lac Travers that shapes the whole year.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. No launch point is recorded nearby, so this is a bank water unless you carry a boat in. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Sort the permit out before you load the car. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. The nearest alternative is Lac Pilate, 0.9 km out. Signs at Lac Travers carry more weight than any list.
