The Capitale-Nationale entry here is Lac Travers, in Quebec. Around the bank it is rolling bush. Surface area is around 13 hectares, which gives you real water without needing a boat. The whole outline is near 2.5 km, and most of it is walkable. For a base, Saint-Ubalde sits 9.5 km out. Further out sit Saint-Marc-des-Carrières (13 km) and Portneuf (22 km). No border sits close enough to matter.
Depth remains unrecorded, so treat the first session as a survey. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Fish documented in Capitale-Nationale include lake sturgeon, Atlantic sturgeon and longnose sucker. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. At Lac Travers the first feature you find is worth twenty minutes.
The seasonal spread runs -14°C to 18°C. The year runs cold to warm and back, with clear transitions. Look for the thaw near late April; the fishing lifts straight after. Ice usually gives way near late April, and forms again about late November. Reckon on open water from spring through to late autumn, with May and June the strongest. It sets the rhythm of the year at Lac Travers.
No access rule appears in what we hold. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Lac Noir sits about 1.4 km away and carries the launch. There is a fishing place at Omble de fontaine, some 1.4 km away. Where a permit is needed, the nearest town usually sells it. Check whether bait restrictions apply before you buy any. If the gate is shut, Lac du Sault at 0.8 km is the nearest alternative. Nothing on Lac Travers should be assumed from this page alone.
