An even grey lid over the water, with a busy S wind on the open water and steady pressure. Expect most activity at Lac Travers around the shallows early and the drop later. The night is where the day comes good. Fish tidy and take what the day gives. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Lac Travers is one of the Mauricie waters in Quebec. Height above sea level is 434 metres. Surface area runs to about 9 hectares — small enough to read in one session. La Tuque sits 57 km from here and is the nearest stop. Métabetchouan follows at 66 km, then Laurentides at 73 km. Close by you also have: Lac Etoile 0.5 km away, Lac a l'Ours at 0.9 km, Lac Ouellet 1.1 km away, Lac Beaudry at 1.4 km and Lac Concombre 1.4 km away. The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
There is no recorded depth, so work from what you can see. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Records held for Mauricie cover northern pike, brook trout, walleye and yellow perch. Take it as the county picture rather than a promise for this water. Anyone new to Lac Travers should walk it once before setting up.
Climate records put July near 17°C and January near -16°C. A short, intense season is the rule this far north. The lid arrives early and lasts until roughly early May. Break-up sits around early May on average, with the water closing again about mid November. The strongest runs come at either end of the open season. The season on Lac Travers rarely departs from it.
We have no record of the rules that apply on this bank. Mapping is blank for access, so scout the approach before committing the car. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Rules for this water may differ from the county norm. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Should this one be busy, Lac Etoile is 0.5 km off. Rules at Lac Travers are worth checking on the day.
