An even grey lid over the water, with an easy breeze from the SE and pressure going nowhere. Start the search at Lac Tooktoo along points where shallow meets deep. Numbers are low everywhere; the night is the pick of them. Scale down and fish slowly. A properly cold day, so expect slow, deliberate fishing.

Lac Tooktoo lies within the bounds of Nord-du-Québec, Quebec. It sits in northern bush. Roughly 22 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. A shoreline of some 2.6 km keeps the choices simple. It is a small entry by Nord-du-Québec standards. Fermont is the closest town at 308 km. The big place round here is Saguenay, 641 km distant. One jurisdiction covers this water end to end.
We hold no depth figure for this one. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Across Nord-du-Québec, recorded fish include Arctic charr, brook trout and lake trout. County records show what lives in the area; the local agency holds the water-by-water list. Lac Tooktoo gives up its fish to patience rather than distance.
Averages move between -25°C in January and 13°C in July. Little of the calendar is open water, so timing counts for everything. Expect a solid lid for months and a thaw around late May. Expect the water usable from around late May until roughly late October. Reckon on open water from spring through to late autumn, with May and June the strongest. On Lac Tooktoo the same rules apply, with local timing.
No access rule appears in what we hold. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. No built facilities appear in mapping around this water. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Gates get locked out of season on water like this. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Lac Nuktie, 16 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Check the position at Lac Tooktoo before loading the car.
