A closed sky with even light today, with barely a breath of wind and pressure going nowhere. The productive water at Lac Thompson will be around the margins and the shelf beyond them. A grinding day likely, with the night worth the effort if any is. Save the long walk for a better forecast.

Lac Thompson falls in Abitibi-Témiscamingue, part of Quebec. Height above sea level is 322 metres. At about 68 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. At about 5.8 km of edge, most people work one arm at a time. Size puts it in the front rank of our Abitibi-Témiscamingue list. Mattawa is the closest place, 33 km off. Then Notre-Dame-du-Lac, 42 km, and Témiscaming, 44 km. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
Our records hold no depth for this water. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Abitibi-Témiscamingue records list northern pike, yellow perch, walleye and white sucker among the fish reported. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. On Lac Thompson a short move beats a long cast.
The warmest month averages 18°C, the coldest about -14°C. The season turns properly here, and fish follow it closely. Count on hard cover from midwinter, and open water from late April. The lid tends to go about late April and return around late November. The strongest runs come at either end of the open season. Expect Lac Thompson to follow that timing.
The access position is unclear from public sources. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Parking is often the real limit rather than the bank itself. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. Lac a la Perle, 1.3 km away, makes the obvious fallback. For Lac Thompson, the notice at the access point is the final word.
