Flat light and a covered sky today, with a faint SW drift and steady pressure. Activity on Lac Tarpon should centre on the calm side of the wind. Numbers are low everywhere; the night is the pick of them. Scale down and fish slowly. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

Look for Lac Tarpon in the Abitibi-Témiscamingue part of Quebec. Height above sea level is 438 metres. It covers about 3 hectares, so this is small water you can walk round in under an hour. It is a small entry by Abitibi-Témiscamingue standards. The nearest place of any size is Val-d'Or, 67 km away. The nearest city of size is Gatineau, 267 km away. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Open biodiversity records for Abitibi-Témiscamingue list northern pike, yellow perch and walleye. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. Fish Lac Tarpon to its features, not to its size.
On the long-term average, July reads 17°C and January reads -16°C. Little of the calendar is open water, so timing counts for everything. After early May the shallows warm and the fish move up. Average temperatures cross freezing around early May in spring and again near mid November in autumn. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. Plan around that when you fish Lac Tarpon.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. Nothing is listed nearby for parking or launching a boat. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Check whether a boat is allowed before you tow one. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. If the gate is shut, Lac Ballast at 0.8 km is the nearest alternative. Nothing on Lac Tarpon should be assumed from this page alone.
