Low, flat cloud sitting over the water, with a gentle ripple from the SSW and pressure sitting still. On Lac Taggart, work the weed line and any gaps in it first. Numbers are low everywhere; the night is the pick of them. Scale down and fish slowly. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

You will find Lac Taggart in Outaouais, Quebec. It sits at 293 metres above sea level. The water covers some 29 hectares, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. With about 3.4 km of edge, you can try several depths in one session. Nearest town is Deep River, 42 km off. Beyond it, Chalk River at 49 km and Petawawa at 62 km. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
No depth figure has reached our records, which makes a plummet useful. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Reported across Outaouais: pumpkinseed, yellow perch, smallmouth bass, rainbow smelt and Iowa darter. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. On Lac Taggart a short move beats a long cast.
Typical July readings run about 18°C; by January the average is down near -15°C. Winter shuts the surface down for months. Ice-out usually falls in late April, and the weeks after it fish hardest. Averages suggest open water from about late April through to roughly late November. The shoulder weeks of the open season are the productive ones. It sets the rhythm of the year at Lac Taggart.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. No made access appears within a short radius, so plan to park on a verge and walk. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Ask in the nearest town if you are unsure. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. Lac Berube at 1.1 km is the sensible second choice. Confirm before you fish Lac Taggart.
