Broken cloud and shifting light today, with a decent SSW wind working the banks and pressure going nowhere. Lac Tafia should fish best around any hard bottom among the soft today. A slow day overall; the night is the best of a quiet lot. Scale down and fish slowly. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

Lac Tafia falls in Abitibi-Témiscamingue, part of Quebec. The bank is 385 metres above sea level. The water covers some 20 hectares, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. There is roughly 2.1 km of shoreline here, which is a short walk end to end. The closest town, Deep River, is 103 km distant. For a city, Gatineau is 224 km off. No border sits close enough to matter.
Without a survey to go on, judge depth from how the bank falls away. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. County-wide records name northern pike, yellow perch, walleye, white sucker and brown bullhead. The list covers the county rather than this water alone, so treat it as a guide. Lac Tafia gives up its fish to patience rather than distance.
Expect July near 17°C and January near -15°C on the long-run figures. Fishing here follows the temperature more than the calendar. Expect a solid lid for months and a thaw around late April. The open-water window runs from around late April to about late November in an average year. Fish feed hardest at the start and the close of the open season. It sets the rhythm of the year at Lac Tafia.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Nothing formal is recorded here: no ramp, no car park, no marked path. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. A phone call first saves an afternoon. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. Lac Busted, 1.3 km away, makes the obvious fallback. None of that is settled for Lac Tafia in what we hold.
