An even grey lid over the water, with hardly a ripple anywhere and pressure sitting still. Start the search at Lac Sylvie along windblown banks where food collects. If you must go, go in the middle of the day. Keep baits small and presentations quiet. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

You will find Lac Sylvie in Côte-Nord, Quebec. This is boreal forest country. At 8 hectares it is the sort of place you fish for an evening rather than a day. The closest town, Godefroy, is 130 km distant. For a city, Saguenay is 302 km off. Alternatives close at hand: Lac Dolores (1.3 km), Lac Elgen some 1.7 km off, Lac Theriault (1.7 km), Lac Villeneuve some 2.3 km off and Lac Yolande (2.4 km). This one is safely inside the county line.
We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Across Côte-Nord, recorded fish include logperch. The county figures include rivers and lakes alike. Lac Sylvie fishes better once you know its edges.
The range across the year is -20°C to 15°C. This is a two-season water: locked, then wide open. Ice-out usually falls in mid May, and the weeks after it fish hardest. On the long-run averages the water opens up around mid May and starts locking again about early November. The weeks after the thaw and the ones before the freeze are the strongest. On Lac Sylvie that shapes the whole year.
The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. Nothing formal is recorded here: no ramp, no car park, no marked path. For the perch, a small jig tipped with worm, dropped along the edges, is hard to beat. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. Lac Dolores sits 1.3 km off and takes the overflow. Check the position on Lac Sylvie before loading the car.
