Lac Summit, Quebec: Fishing Spots and Seasons

• Overview

  Lac Summit is one of the Mauricie waters in Quebec. Elevation runs to 526 metres. At about 16 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. The whole outline is near 2.5 km, and most of it is walkable. Compared with other Quebec water on our list, it sits high. Start from Weymontachie, 26 km down the road. It is 217 km to Trois-Rivières, the nearest city. No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.

• Where to Fish on Lac Summit

  Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Open biodiversity records for Mauricie list northern pike, brook trout, walleye and yellow perch. What holds for the county may not hold for this water. The near bank of Lac Summit is often the one people ignore.

• Seasonal Patterns

  Expect July to average close to 16°C, with January the cold end at about -17°C. Cold dominates the year and the fishing works around it. The lid arrives early and lasts until roughly early May. Average temperatures cross freezing around early May in spring and again near mid November in autumn. June through September is the settled part of the year, with the shoulders busier for fish. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Lac Summit.

• Tackle & Baits

  We have no record of the rules that apply on this bank. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. There is no mapped parking or launch close by, which usually means walking in. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. A landowner's word beats anything printed elsewhere. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. The nearest alternative is Lac Samese, 1.8 km out. Nothing here settles the position at Lac Summit for certain.
