Flat light and a covered sky today, with air barely moving with a settled glass. On Lac Sucker, work the shallows early and the drop later first. A tough forecast; the middle of the day offers the only real chance. Keep baits small and presentations quiet. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

Lac Sucker lies in Outaouais, Quebec. The bank is 394 metres above sea level. With some 27 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. About 4.4 km of bank, so nothing stays unexplored for long. Supplies mean a trip to Saint-Boniface, 87 km off. Maniwaki follows at 97 km, then Saint-Raphaël at 107 km. Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Fish documented in Outaouais include pumpkinseed, yellow perch, smallmouth bass, rainbow smelt and Iowa darter. County data is a starting point rather than a guarantee. Take Lac Sucker a stretch at a time.
Climate records put July near 17°C and January near -17°C. Cold winters and warm summers give a wide working range. Ice-out usually falls in early May, and the weeks after it fish hardest. The lid tends to go about early May and return around late November. Reckon on open water from spring through to late autumn, with May and June the strongest. The season on Lac Sucker rarely departs from it.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Formal access is not mapped, so the last stretch is likely on foot. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. If the gate is shut, Lac Quetsche at 0.8 km is the nearest alternative. Treat access at Lac Sucker as something to verify.
