Overcast skies today, with hardly a ripple anywhere with the glass holding level. Give inflow corners and shaded margins the first hour at Lac Steen. A tough forecast; the night offers the only real chance. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

Quebec holds Lac Steen, in Abitibi-Témiscamingue. This is boreal forest ground. The water covers some 91 hectares, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. Bank access stretches around 4.7 km in total. It is among the larger waters listed here for Abitibi-Témiscamingue. For supplies, Senneterre is 68 km out. Then Barraute, 97 km, and Lebel-sur-Quévillon, 99 km. No border sits close enough to matter.
No figure exists for depth, so let the water show you. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Fish documented in Abitibi-Témiscamingue include northern pike, yellow perch, walleye, white sucker and brown bullhead. The county figures include rivers and lakes alike. Lac Steen gives up its fish to patience rather than distance.
Typical July readings run about 16°C; by January the average is down near -18°C. Cold dominates the calendar on water this far north. Ice-out usually falls in early May, and the weeks after it fish hardest. On the long-run averages the water opens up around early May and starts locking again about mid November. The strongest runs come at either end of the open season. It sets the rhythm of the year at Lac Steen.
Public sources are silent on who controls the bank. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. No launch point is recorded nearby, so this is a bank water unless you carry a boat in. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. The nearest alternative is Lac Riton, 2.8 km out. Nothing on Lac Steen should be assumed from this page alone.
