Cloud from horizon to horizon today, with just enough E wind to ripple the surface and the barometer holding steady. Whatever swims in Lac Spenard should be near the seam between weed and open water. The productive run goes afternoon into evening. Start on the obvious water and expand from there.

Nord-du-Québec in Quebec is where Lac Spenard sits. The water sits 318 metres up. This is sizeable water at about 3.87 sq km, and a boat opens up most of it. The edge covers about 9.6 km, enough to hold several distinct areas. Kuujjuaq lies 246 km from the water. Further out sit Labrador City (469 km) and Wabush (475 km). Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
No depth figure has reached our records, which makes a plummet useful. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. County-wide records name Arctic charr, brook trout and lake trout. What holds for the county may not hold for this water. Lac Spenard gives up its fish to patience rather than distance.
Averages move between -25°C in January and 13°C in July. This far north the hard season runs and runs. Ice fishing carries the winter, and the water opens about late May. Averages place the thaw at late May and the freeze at early November. The weeks after the thaw and the ones before the freeze are the strongest. It holds true on Lac Spenard more years than not.
Public sources are silent on who controls the bank. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Public data shows nothing built here, so treat the whole approach as informal. Light line and small metal for the trout; a fly rod earns its place on calm evenings. Season dates differ by species, so read the table. Check whether bait restrictions apply before you buy any. Lac Doran sits 13 km off and takes the overflow. None of that is settled for Lac Spenard in what we hold.
