Overcast skies today, with a light S breeze and pressure going nowhere. Give reed fringes and open pockets the first hour at Lac Solitaire. A grinding day likely, with the evening worth the effort if any is. Scale down and fish slowly. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Lac Solitaire stands in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, Quebec. It stands 584 metres above sea level. It covers about 6 hectares, so this is small water you can walk round in under an hour. Compared with other Quebec water on our list, it sits high. The closest town, Saint-Fulgence, is 70 km away. Saint-Honoré is 72 km away, with La Baie at 80 km. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
Depth remains unrecorded, so treat the first session as a survey. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Records held for Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean cover northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. Lac Solitaire fishes better once you know its edges.
Average temperature peaks around 16°C in July and bottoms out near -19°C in January. The season is measured in weeks rather than months. After mid May the shallows warm and the fish move up. Expect the water usable from around mid May until roughly mid November. The first weeks of open water and the last are the ones to plan for. Lac Solitaire fishes to that pattern most years.
Access is not recorded for this water. Public mapping records no formal access here, so plan for a walk and soft ground. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Take the rules with you rather than trusting memory. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. For a change of water, Lac Jocelyn is 0.5 km distant. None of that is settled for Lac Solitaire in what we hold.
