Steady rain over the water today, with a persistent wind from the SSW and pressure going nowhere. The water to cover at Lac Sciar is the weed line and any gaps in it. The numbers single out the morning. Fish confidently and change only when the bites stop. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

Set in Lanaudière, Quebec, this is Lac Sciar. It sits at 575 metres above sea level. It covers about 2 hectares, so this is small water you can walk round in under an hour. It is a small entry by Lanaudière standards. Start from Saint-Michel-des-Saints, 18 km down the road. Saint-Louis-de-Terrebonne sits 91 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. County-wide records name pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass, yellow perch and rock bass. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. Take Lac Sciar a stretch at a time.
July runs about 17°C on average, January about -15°C. The year splits cleanly: hard water, then open water. The lid usually sets by midwinter and gives way around early May. Expect the water usable from around early May until roughly late November. The open run goes from the thaw to the freeze, and April through October covers most of it. That shapes the year on Lac Sciar.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. A toilet block sits 1.2 km away. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. Should this one be busy, Lac Geoffroy is 0.4 km off. Ask locally about Lac Sciar if anything is unclear.
