A closed sky with even light today, with a light chop building from the WSW with a settled glass. The productive water at Lac Savard will be around the weed line and any gaps in it. Expectations low today; if anything moves, it will be in the night. Lower the pace and stay patient. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Lac Savard lies in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, in Quebec. The setting is boreal forest. The water covers some 11 hectares, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. A shoreline of some 1.3 km keeps the choices simple. It is high ground by Quebec standards. 26 km away sits Saint-Fulgence, the nearest town. Saint-Honoré follows at 34 km, then La Baie at 35 km. One jurisdiction covers this water end to end.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Fish documented in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean include northern pike, Atlantic salmon and lake whitefish. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. At Lac Savard the first feature you find is worth twenty minutes.
The range across the year is -18°C to 15°C. Ice holds for a long stretch, so the open weeks matter more here than further south. After mid May the shallows warm and the fish move up. Averages suggest open water from about mid May through to roughly early November. The strong weeks are the first after break-up and the last before the freeze. Expect Lac Savard to follow that timing.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Public data shows nothing built here, so treat the whole approach as informal. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Look for a notice board at the entrance. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. If the gate is shut, Lac Tessier at 1.5 km is the nearest alternative. Check the position at Lac Savard before loading the car.
