Lac Saumon in Laurentides: How and When to Fish It

• Overview

  Lac Saumon is one of the Laurentides waters in Quebec. Country round the bank runs to lake country bush. Small at around 2 hectares: two anglers spread out cover most of it. It is a small entry by Laurentides standards. 3.7 km away sits Saint-Adolphe-d'Howard, the nearest town. The big place round here is Saint-Louis-de-Terrebonne, 52 km distant. Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.

• Where to Fish on Lac Saumon

  Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Records held for Laurentides cover pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass and yellow perch. What holds for the county may not hold for this water. Lac Saumon fishes better once you know its edges.

• Seasonal Patterns

  Between January at about -14°C and July at about 18°C, the water has a wide range to work through. Winter shuts things down for a spell, then spring reopens them fast. Break-up comes around late April, and the run that follows is short and strong. Climate figures give an open season running late April to late November. The strongest runs come at either end of the open season. Lac Saumon runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.

• Tackle & Baits

  The access position is unclear from public sources. There is no mapped parking or launch nearby, which keeps numbers down. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Close seasons apply to some species and not others.
