A closed sky with even light today, with barely a breath of wind and no real change in pressure. The fish at Lac Sancourt are likely to sit near windblown banks where food collects. Save your energy for the night. Change depth before you change anything else. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Set in Lanaudière, Quebec, this is Lac Sancourt. Height above sea level is 469 metres. This is a pocket water of some 2 hectares, and every part of it is reachable from the bank. On size it sits at the modest end of our Lanaudière list. Saint-Michel-des-Saints sits 40 km from the bank. Rivière-Rouge is 45 km and Saint-Donat-de-Montcalm 46 km. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Public occurrence data for Lanaudière names pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass, yellow perch, rock bass and brook trout. Take it as the county picture rather than a promise for this water. Lac Sancourt responds to conditions more than to tactics.
Typical July readings run about 17°C; by January the average is down near -15°C. The year here is short and sharp: a long lid, then a burst of open water. Ice-out usually falls in early May, and the weeks after it fish hardest. Averages place the thaw at early May and the freeze at mid November. Fishing peaks soon after break-up and again before the cold returns. Anyone fishing Lac Sancourt regularly works to that calendar.
Our records carry no access rule either way. The map shows no ramp or car park nearby, so this is a walk-in water. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. If the gate is shut, Lac Force at 0.2 km is the nearest alternative. For Lac Sancourt, the notice at the access point is the final word.
