Rain moving through today, with calm air over the water and pressure sitting still. On Lac Protege, work the weed line and any gaps in it first. Save your energy for the night. Change depth before you change anything else. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Within Lanaudière, Quebec, you have Lac Protege. It lies 520 metres above sea level. It sits higher than most water we list in Quebec. Saint-Michel-des-Saints is the closest place, 43 km off. Rivière-Rouge is 43 km and Saint-Donat-de-Montcalm 47 km. Others worth noting: Lac Jugy out at 1.4 km, Lac Augeron at about 1.9 km, Lac Force out at 2.4 km, Lac Sancourt at about 2.6 km and Lac Dirinon out at 2.6 km. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
Depth is not on record here, so the bank has to tell you. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. County-wide records name pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass, yellow perch and rock bass. The county list is broader than any single water. On Lac Protege the first feature you find is usually worth a session.
Temperature averages peak at 17°C in July and bottom out at -15°C in January. Little of the calendar is open water, so timing counts for everything. Once it clears, about early May, the fishing comes on quickly. On average, early May opens the water and mid November closes it again. The middle of summer slows a little, with dawn and dusk carrying it. That shapes the year on Lac Protege.
Our records carry no access rule either way. Nothing is mapped in the way of a ramp or car park within a short radius. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. Lac Jugy at 1.4 km is the sensible second choice. Signs at Lac Protege carry more weight than any list.
