Bright moon and an empty sky tonight, with a whisper of wind from the NW with the barometer flat. Expect most activity at Lac Samart around reed fringes and open pockets. Plan around the stretch from night into morning. Keep moving until you find them. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

The Outaouais end of Quebec holds Lac Samart. This is pine and birch country. It covers about 10 hectares, so this is small water you can walk round in under an hour. The whole outline is near 2.0 km, and most of it is walkable. The closest town, Saint-Boniface, is 45 km distant. Gatineau sits 157 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. One jurisdiction covers this water end to end.
Our records hold no depth for this water. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Across Outaouais, recorded fish include pumpkinseed, yellow perch, smallmouth bass, rainbow smelt and Iowa darter. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. Take Lac Samart a stretch at a time.
The range across the year is -16°C to 18°C. The freeze arrives properly here and holds. Winter fishing happens on the ice here, with open water back around late April. Open water usually runs from late April until about late November. The weeks after the thaw and the ones before the freeze are the strongest. Lac Samart runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
Public sources are silent on who controls the bank. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Nothing is mapped in the way of a ramp or car park within a short radius. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. Should this one be busy, Lac Anguerny is 0.8 km off. None of that is settled for Lac Samart in what we hold.
