No direct sun expected today, with a gentle ripple from the SSE and pressure going nowhere. Lac Salbert should fish best around the shaded margin through bright spells today. The day peaks in the night. Work fewer spots, but work them properly. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

Lac Salbert is a Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean water, Quebec side. Height above sea level is 318 metres. It covers about 3 hectares, so this is small water you can walk round in under an hour. On size it sits at the modest end of our Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean list. The closest town, Normandin, is 68 km away. Albanel follows at 70 km, then Dolbeau-Mistassini at 84 km. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
Our records hold no depth for this water. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Across Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, recorded fish include northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. At Lac Salbert the water rewards a slow, careful approach.
Climate normals give 16°C for July and -19°C for January. The ice season is long here and the open one short. Count the season from break-up, usually early May. Break-up near early May, freeze-up near mid November: that is the shape of an average year. Look to early summer and the first cool weeks of autumn. That is the shape of the year on Lac Salbert.
Our records carry no access rule either way. No car park, ramp or path is recorded within easy reach of the shore. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. Should this one be busy, Lac des Asplenies is 0.7 km off. None of that is settled for Lac Salbert in what we hold.
