Soft grey light all day today, with mild air moving in from the SW and steady pressure. The water to cover at Lac Sairas is the calm side of the wind. Expectations low today; if anything moves, it will be in the night. Lower the pace and stay patient. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

Lac Sairas sits within Outaouais in Quebec. It sits in lake country bush. It runs to roughly 48 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. The edge runs 4.9 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. On our Outaouais list it sits near the top for size. Deep River is the closest place, 87 km off. Gatineau sits 188 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
Depth remains unrecorded, so treat the first session as a survey. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Reported across Outaouais: pumpkinseed, yellow perch, smallmouth bass, rainbow smelt and Iowa darter. County data is a starting point rather than a guarantee. Fish Lac Sairas where the bottom changes rather than where it looks deep.
Between January at about -16°C and July at about 17°C, the water has a wide range to work through. Winter puts a hard lid on this one. Firm cover through the cold months, then open water from late April. In an average year the thaw lands around late April and the freeze near late November. Fish feed hardest at the start and the close of the open season. The season on Lac Sairas follows the weather closely.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. The map shows no ramp or car park nearby, so this is a walk-in water. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. LacChavannes, 1.8 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Rules at Lac Sairas are worth checking on the day.
