Wet weather working through today, with an easy breeze from the SW with the barometer flat. Whatever swims in Lac McLatchie should be near the calm side of the wind. Expectations low today; if anything moves, it will be in the night. Lower the pace and stay patient. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

Lac McLatchie is an Outaouais water, in Quebec. The setting is mixed forest. The water covers around 2.03 sq km, which puts most of it out of reach from the bank. You are looking at roughly 16 km of shoreline, with plenty of water between access points. It ranks high for size among our Outaouais listings. The nearest town is Saint-Boniface, 91 km away. After that come Deep River at 92 km and Maniwaki at 98 km. No border sits close enough to matter.
No chart reached our records; the first cast is your sounding. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Survey and observation records for Outaouais include pumpkinseed, yellow perch, smallmouth bass and rainbow smelt. The list covers the county rather than this water alone, so treat it as a guide. Read Lac McLatchie before you fish it and the day goes better.
On the long-term average, July reads 17°C and January reads -16°C. The year runs cold to warm and back, with clear transitions. The lid arrives early and lasts until roughly late April. Break-up near late April, freeze-up near late November: that is the shape of an average year. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. Plan any trip to Lac McLatchie around it.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Mapping shows an empty shoreline: no ramp, no jetty, no marked entry. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. Lac Toboggan, 3.7 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Rules at Lac McLatchie are worth checking on the day.
