Soft grey light all day today, with a light SW breeze and the barometer holding steady. On Lac Sainte-Croix, work the weed line and any gaps in it first. Little to get excited about, though the middle of the day holds a sliver of promise. Downsize everything and pick the calmest water.

Lac Sainte-Croix is a Côte-Nord water, Quebec side. Tidal water begins 10 km from here. Around 25 hectares of surface means several distinct areas to work. There is roughly 3.3 km of shoreline here, which is a short walk end to end. Ground here is low by Quebec standards. Supplies mean a trip to Baie-Comeau, 57 km off. Saguenay sits 288 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. The nearest boundary is a fair way off.
No figure exists for depth, so let the water show you. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Fish documented in Côte-Nord include logperch. Read it as a county summary, not a water-by-water list. Lac Sainte-Croix gives up its fish to patience rather than distance.
Expect July near 16°C and January near -14°C on the long-run figures. Seasons are distinct, and each one fishes differently. After early May the shallows warm and the fish move up. Expect the water usable from around early May until roughly mid November. From the thaw to midsummer the fishing improves week by week. It sets the rhythm of the year at Lac Sainte-Croix.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Nothing formal is recorded here: no ramp, no car park, no marked path. For the perch, a small jig tipped with worm, dropped along the edges, is hard to beat. Parking is often the real limit rather than the bank itself. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. Lac Grebe, 0.5 km away, makes the obvious fallback. None of that is settled for Lac Sainte-Croix in what we hold.
