An even grey lid over the water, with a helpful ripple pushed from the SSW and pressure sitting still. Start the search at Lac Ruy along the seam between weed and open water. Numbers are low everywhere; the middle of the day is the pick of them. Take the small wins and call it early if it dies.

Set in Outaouais, Quebec, this is Lac Ruy. Height above sea level is 238 metres. It measures about 16 hectares, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. Around 2.0 km of margin, front to back. Saint-Boniface sits 29 km from the bank. Beyond it, Maniwaki at 41 km and Saint-Raphaël at 54 km. In the same area: Lac Beauduc at about 0.4 km, 0.6 km away is Lac Raloy, Lac Labadin at about 2 km, 2.4 km away is Lac Malaval and Lac Germain at about 2.4 km. The nearest boundary is a fair way off.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Survey and observation records for Outaouais include pumpkinseed, yellow perch, smallmouth bass and rainbow smelt. The county list is broader than any single water. Read Lac Ruy before you fish it and the day goes better.
July runs about 18°C on average, January about -15°C. Cold locks it up for a good stretch each year. Winter locks it down, and late April brings it back. Ice usually gives way near late April, and forms again about late November. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. The season on Lac Ruy rarely departs from it.
There is no clear statement anywhere on who can fish it. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Public data shows nothing built here, so treat the whole approach as informal. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. Lac Beauduc at 0.4 km is the sensible second choice. The position on Lac Ruy is worth confirming on the day.
