Heavy overcast holding through the day, with mild air moving in from the SSW and the barometer holding steady. Activity on Lac Rufus should centre on structure within a cast of the bank. A slow day overall; the night is the best of a quiet lot. Scale down and fish slowly. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Night
Lac Rufus lies in Outaouais, in Quebec. It sits in mixed forest country. At about 33 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. The whole outline is near 3.4 km, and most of it is walkable. On our Outaouais list it sits near the top for size. The nearest town is Saint-Boniface, 48 km away. After that come Maniwaki at 59 km and Saint-Raphaël at 69 km. This one is safely inside the county line.
There is no published depth for this one, so start shallow and work out. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Fish documented in Outaouais include pumpkinseed, yellow perch, smallmouth bass and rainbow smelt. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. On Lac Rufus the quiet end is the one worth the extra effort.
On the long-term average, July reads 18°C and January reads -16°C. The freeze arrives properly here and holds. Once it clears, about late April, the fishing comes on quickly. Climate averages put the opening at about late April and the closing near late November. Early summer and early autumn carry the open-water season. On Lac Rufus the same rules apply, with local timing.
The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. No built facilities appear in mapping around this water. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. Should this one be busy, Lac Dariole is 0.9 km off. Nothing here settles the position at Lac Rufus for certain.
