Cloud from horizon to horizon today, with light air out of the WSW and no real change in pressure. Fish at Lac Rouge should hold close to the seam between weed and open water. Little to get excited about, though the night holds a sliver of promise. Lower the pace and stay patient. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Lac Rouge falls in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, part of Quebec. It stands 171 metres above sea level. The water measures roughly 7 hectares, so nothing here is far from anything else. By elevation it sits in the lower part of our Quebec listings. The town to know is L'Ascension-de-Notre-Seigneur, 8.1 km out. Sainte-Monique is 12 km away, with Labrecque at 15 km. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Reported across Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean: northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. Lac Rouge repays a walk before the first cast.
Climate records put July near 17°C and January near -18°C. A hard winter is normal, and the thaw brings a strong few weeks. Ice-out usually falls in early May, and the weeks after it fish hardest. On the long-run averages the water opens up around early May and starts locking again about late November. The strongest runs come at either end of the open season. On Lac Rouge that shapes the whole year.
The access position is unclear from public sources. No launch point is recorded nearby, so this is a bank water unless you carry a boat in. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Local rules can differ across the county line, so check where you stand. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. Lac Jaune, 2.3 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Where Lac Rouge is concerned, a local answer beats a written one.
