A grey, even sky over the water, with a soft WSW wind with the glass holding level. Lac Brun should fish best around the first drop-off and weed lines today. A slow day overall; the night is the best of a quiet lot. Scale down and fish slowly. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Look for Lac Brun in the Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean part of Quebec. It sits at 166 metres above sea level. Around 15 hectares of surface means several distinct areas to work. The bank runs about 3.5 km all the way round, so one visit can cover most of it. By elevation it sits in the lower part of our Quebec listings. You are 6.9 km from L'Ascension-de-Notre-Seigneur. Further out sit Sainte-Monique (9.4 km) and Labrecque (16 km). It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
No figure exists for depth, so let the water show you. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Species logged across Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean include northern pike, Atlantic salmon and lake whitefish. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. Read Lac Brun before you fish it and the day goes better.
Averages move between -18°C in January and 18°C in July. Cold locks it up for a good stretch each year. The lid usually sets by midwinter and gives way around early May. Break-up near early May, freeze-up near late November: that is the shape of an average year. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. At Lac Brun the season follows that pattern closely.
Access is not recorded for this water. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. The map shows no ramp or car park nearby, so this is a walk-in water. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Where parking is tight, arriving early solves most problems. If the gate is shut, Lac Blanc at 0.6 km is the nearest alternative. Nothing on Lac Brun should be assumed from this page alone.
