A mixed sky through the night, with barely a breath of wind and pressure sitting still. The water to cover at Lac Rotary is sheltered bays and points. Numbers are low everywhere; the middle of the day is the pick of them. Take the small wins and call it early if it dies. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Lac Rotary is one of the Abitibi-Témiscamingue waters in Quebec. The ground around here is northern bush. At about 12 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. About 1.8 km of bank, so nothing stays unexplored for long. The closest town, Ferme-Neuve, is 116 km away. The big place round here is Gatineau, 249 km distant. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
No figure exists for depth, so let the water show you. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Survey and observation records for Abitibi-Témiscamingue include northern pike, yellow perch and walleye. What holds for the county may not hold for this water. On Lac Rotary the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
On the long-term average, July reads 16°C and January reads -18°C. The ice season is long here and the open one short. Hard water holds through the cold months, breaking up near early May. On average, early May opens the water and mid November closes it again. The strong weeks are the first after break-up and the last before the freeze. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Lac Rotary.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Nothing formal is recorded here: no ramp, no car park, no marked path. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Some banks are open only from a marked point. Where parking is tight, arriving early solves most problems. Lac Dick, 1.2 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Confirm before you fish Lac Rotary.
