Flat light and a covered sky today, with a gentle ripple from the ENE with the barometer flat. Give windblown banks where food collects the first hour at Lac Rond. A broad window opens from night into morning. Commit to the pattern once the first fish shows. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Lac Rond stands in Laurentides, Quebec. The land about it is rolling bush. Around 15 hectares of surface means several distinct areas to work. Bank access stretches around 2.0 km in total. Nearest place of any size is Brownsburg-Chatham, 19 km away. Beyond it, Saint-Adolphe-d'Howard at 21 km and Morin-Heights at 23 km. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
Depth figures are not published for this one. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. County-wide records name pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass, yellow perch and brook trout. The county list is broader than any single water. The shape of Lac Rond rewards a slow walk along one bank.
Between January at about -13°C and July at about 19°C, the water has a wide range to work through. Cold locks it up for a good stretch each year. Ice-out usually falls in late April, and the weeks after it fish hardest. Averages suggest open water from about late April through to roughly late November. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. The season on Lac Rond rarely departs from it.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. The car has to stay 1.2 km away, which shapes how much tackle you bring. There is a toilet block some 1.2 km out. Check whether a boat is allowed before you tow one. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. Should this one be busy, Lac Bleu is 0.7 km off. The position on Lac Rond is worth confirming on the day.
