No cloud to trap the day's warmth tonight, with barely a breath of wind and steady pressure. On Lac Roland, work the first drop-off and weed lines first. Make the middle of the day the heart of the trip. Commit to the pattern once the first fish shows. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

This water sits in Mauricie, Quebec. The country round it is spruce and muskeg from end to end. This is a pocket water of some 6 hectares, and every part of it is reachable from the bank. It is high ground by Quebec standards. For supplies, Weymontachie is 40 km out. Leblanc follows at 42 km, then Saint-Félicien at 107 km. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
Depth is unmeasured here, so let the shoreline guide you. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Mauricie records list northern pike, brook trout, walleye, yellow perch and white sucker among the fish reported. It is the county picture; the agency list is water-specific. Read Lac Roland before you fish it and the day goes better.
On the long-term average, July reads 16°C and January reads -17°C. Open water arrives late and leaves early, which concentrates the fishing. Ice fishing carries the winter, and the water opens about early May. Averages place the thaw at early May and the freeze at mid November. Late spring and early autumn carry the year between them. It sets the rhythm of the year at Lac Roland.
We have no record of the rules that apply on this bank. Nothing built is recorded close to the bank here. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Some banks are open only from a marked point. Where parking is tight, arriving early solves most problems. Lac Foin, 0.7 km away, makes the obvious fallback. None of that is settled for Lac Roland in what we hold.
