Dull, settled light over the water, with almost no wind to speak of and steady pressure. The productive water at Lac du Trou Noir will be around the margins and the shelf beyond them. The day peaks in the night. Cover water early, then settle where the signs are. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Lac du Trou Noir is one of the Mauricie waters in Quebec. The ground around here is taiga. At 3 hectares it is the sort of place you fish for an evening rather than a day. On size it sits at the modest end of our Mauricie list. You are 39 km from Weymontachie. The big place round here is Saguenay, 202 km distant. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Across Mauricie, recorded fish include northern pike, brook trout and walleye. The county list is broader than any single water. Anyone new to Lac du Trou Noir should walk it once before setting up.
Averages move between -17°C in January and 16°C in July. The year here is short and sharp: a long lid, then a burst of open water. Count on hard cover from midwinter, and open water from early May. Climate averages put the opening at about early May and the closing near mid November. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. At Lac du Trou Noir the season follows that pattern closely.
Nothing in our records says who may fish here. No built facilities appear in mapping around this water. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. Lac Roland, 1.1 km away, makes the obvious fallback.
