Solid cloud cover today, with an easy breeze from the S with the glass holding level. Expect most activity at Lac Rognon around the first drop-off and weed lines. Save your energy for the night. Change depth before you change anything else. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Lac Rognon falls in Laurentides, part of Quebec. The ground around here is pine and birch. It covers about 5 hectares, so this is small water you can walk round in under an hour. The closest town, Lac-Simon, is 9.9 km distant. The big place round here is Orléans, 93 km distant. Others worth noting: Lac Brochet sits 1.6 km out, Lac Key (2 km), Lac Mareuil sits 2.4 km out, Lac Etroit (3 km) and Lac des Molenes sits 3.2 km out. No border sits close enough to matter.
No depth figure has reached our records, which makes a plummet useful. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Records held for Laurentides cover pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass, yellow perch, brook trout and rock bass. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. On Lac Rognon the quiet end is the one worth the extra effort.
Long-term averages put July at about 18°C and January near -14°C. A hard winter is normal, and the thaw brings a strong few weeks. The open season starts with the thaw, near enough late April. In an average year the thaw lands around late April and the freeze near late November. Fish feed hardest at the start and the close of the open season. Plan around that when you fish Lac Rognon.
Whether you may fish here is not something records settle. Nothing formal is recorded here: no ramp, no car park, no marked path. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. For a change of water, Lac Brochet is 1.6 km distant. Rules at Lac Rognon are worth checking on the day.
